1.25.10
In 2010, my bf and I decided to map out a list of restaurants to go to this year. We listed out 100+ restaurants we would like to try. We collected restaurants that were reviewed by the New York Times, New York Magazine and a few other sources (Food Network, word-of-mouth, Manhattan Magazine, etc).
The first on our list was 10 Downing Food & Wine. I heard numerous times that this place was the perfect place to enjoy a quality meal without the pretentious crowd or a difficult host. When we were able to get reservations on such short notice, we were pleasantly surprised.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by a gregarious host who seated us immediately. The restaurant was almost empty when we sat down at 7 pm, but by the time we left, it was packed with a lively crowd.
He had...
Maine Peeky Toe Crab Ravioli- vanilla butter, lady apple, chives
Rosemary Roasted Berkshire Pork Shoulder- ham hock, flageolet beans, Brusselssprouts
Wild Black Bass- green lentils, horseradish leek & tarragon fondue
My favorite was the wild mushroom polenta. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked, to the point where it just melted in my mouth. The pork shoulder and black bass was amazing. I will be returning soon to try their other dishes. Next time, I'd like to try the braised short ribs (I stared at the woman next to us because she was devouring her short ribs).
