Feeling Right at HOME
11.22.09
When I was growing up in Korea, I was embarrassed to tell everybody I was from the south. People would always make fun of my accent (which I no longer have) and the small cities I lived in (Starkville, Frankfort, Columbia). I thought you had to live in big cities like New York, Boston or LA to be cool. But, what people don't know is that south has good things too....like Southern comfort food.
Living in New York, I always miss southern comfort food, especially grits. But, I was so pleased when I heard there was a decent, qualified restaurant in the West Village called Home that offered delicious, savory grits.
Located in the heart of West Village on Cornelia Street, we ventured out to the west side to try some home-cooked food. We went early in the morning to avoid lines, and thankfully, made it just in time before it started to get packed.
The minute we sat down, they offered homemade corn bread, and boy was my mouth doing dances inside. We had just enough bread before we continued to stuff our faces with more breakfast food.
He ordered....
Our Seasonal Three Egg Omelet with a side of Fried Oysters
I ate...
Country Biscuits and Chicken Sausage Gravy, side of chive grits
I definitely got in touch with my southern roots. Can't wait to try the cheddar grits next time I go.
