The First Date
10.2.09
When my mom first told me about a potential blind date, I shuttered at the thought of meeting a total stranger in New York City. The idea doesn't seem too bad if you think about the daily encounters I have with random strangers, but to actually have to eat a whole meal with a person I've never met made me cringe inside.
After a few phone calls, we decided to meet at Hearth in front of the restaurant under the red awning.
At Hearth I had...
Roasted Chatham Cod with Black Cabbage, Chickpeas, Smoked Garlic
He had....
Roasted Duck Breast: Braised thigh, Medjool Dates, Red Endive, Orange, Coriander
We shared....
Gnocchi
The cod was soft and perfectly cooked. But, my favorite dish at the restaurant has to be the Gnocchi. Not only does it just melt in your mouth, but it's seasoned with the right amount of flavor.
What I like most about Hearth is the atmosphere and quality. They use locally sourced ingredients and the waiters/ waitresses wear plaid shirts with jeans. Despite the casual dining feel, the scenery is perfect for a romantic dinner for two.
Much to my surprise, our first date went really well. I enjoyed the food as well as the company.
Hopefully, we'll be going back for another special occasion.
