Novita

3.11.10
We added Novita to our list of restaurants to try after Sifton (NY Times Food Critic) reviewed it recently. I was really excited because 1) I love Italian food and 2) I heard the waiters speak Italian to you, making it feel like you're in Italy.

Like always, we were clueless on what to order. So, we quickly went through our blackberry to see what people had at Novita. Thanks to Yelp, we learned that the most popular dish was pappardalle con ragu d'agnello. That night, they happen to have a truffle pasta special, so we ordered that with the pappardalle.

Insalata di Caprino (warm goat cheese with rucola and walnut vinaigrette)

Truffle Spaghetti (pasta special)

Pappardelle con ragu d'agnello

Can I say, OMG for truffle spaghetti?? First of all, I've never had that much truffle on one plate. It's usually a hint of truffle oil, but this was actually a decent amount of shaved truffle. FYI, the dish was $38. Nevertheless, the pasta was worth it. The pasta wasn't the only highlight of the night. I also liked the goat cheese salad. The cheese was poignant and thick, the kind of cheese I like. It was also big enough for 2 people to share. I hate appetizers that you can eat in one bite. I don't know about you but I'd like to enjoy my meal for longer than a minute.

Thanks to Sifton, we were able to enjoy an original home cooked Italian food. It felt like an actual Italian chef cooked the meal. Would I go again? Absolutely. The staff, food, price were all reasonable. One thing I didn't like was that the tables were way too close to each other. I was distracted throughout the meal because I was listening to the next table's conversation. A little distracting...Otherwise, the food and experience were both two thumbs up!
